Michelangelo Melano (1867-1915) - Ritratto di borghese

A pupil of A. Gastaldi at the Albertina Academy in Turin, he was a passionate portraitist, but also a painter of genre scenes and of hagiographic subjects.
Among the works shown at the various exhibitions, we recall the “Portrait of Dr. G.B. Bono presented in Milan in 1887 and that of S. M. Umberto exhibited in Turin B in 1902 now at the municipal museum of Racconigi.
At the Turin Quadriennials, in 1900 he exhibited “Reconciliation” and at the 1908 one “Remembered caresses” and two portraits.
The portrait of the man presented here belonged to a private Roman collection and can very well date from the end of the nineteenth century.
The dimensions of the canvas alone are 60 cm in width and 77 cm in height, with some tearing of the canvas as in the photo.
