In 1960, in fact, Bernard Aubertin experimented with a very particular painting technique that involved using the back of a spoon as a tool to directly shape the painting material on the board.
After applying a layer of red acrylic on the board, Aubertin pressed the colored material with the back of a metal spoon repeatedly and rhythmically, creating a series of concave impressions.
This gesture is not accidental: the spoon becomes a tool for incision and modeling, transforming the surface into a three-dimensional field where the red color gains depth, movement, and physicality.

The technique used by Aubertin in this very rare monochrome creates a vibrant and tactile texture that breaks the traditional flatness of monochrome to evoke an intense visual and tactile experience, consistent with Aubertin's desire to go beyond two-dimensional painting.
This approach falls within the artist's experimental phase, during which, from 1958 to 1961, he develops new ways to bring his 'Rosso Totale' to life through direct physical contact with the material, going beyond mere painting application.
