The Marka are an ethnic group very close to the Bambara, whose art is characterized in particular by their masks covered with brass plates, like this one.
Among the Marka, Do is the spirit to which the masks give shape and constitutes its expression.
Do comes from the bush by the mask of leaves and in certain mythical cases by the masks of fibers and carved wooden heads.
In the religious system of Marka society, do is the most invoked and its cult the most elaborate.
The Marka are organized in structured and hierarchical mask societies.
There is an initiatory language which is a means of communication in the hands of initiates. Object in very good condition, no restoration, well preserved in its original condition
