Couteau de circoncision "poko" et son fourreau "cindalo" Chokwe 
Angola 
Longueur totale (dans son fourreau) : 33,5 cm

Matériaux : fer forgé, bois, cuir d'antilope, clous de tapisserie 
Provenance : Domusarte Auction house - Portugal

Ce poignard était fabriqué par les Chokwe (Tschokwé), mais on le retrouvait également chez les Lunda et les Lwena. Le couteau lui-même était appelé Poko ou Tewla , et le fourreau Cindalo . Il était toujours richement décoré, tel un bijou, avec des clous de tapisserie et des motifs géométriques élaborés. Le manche est sculpté pour laisser apparaître la soie de la lame en fer. La face avant (décorée) du fourreau est généralement en bois sculpté ou en cuir gaufré ; cet exemplaire est en bois sculpté (Elsen,  De Fer et De fierté,  2003 ; Felix & GE (éd.),  Fatal Beauty: Traditional Weapons from Central Africa,  2009).

Excellente provenance puisque l'Angola était l'une des colonies du Portugal, ce qui nous fait penser que ce couteau n'avait encore jamais quitté ses frontières. Les deux dernières photographies montre le couteau lorsque je l'ai acquis avant son léger nettoyage.
