Fujii Shumei – Japanese porcelain vase – rare large format – Tomobako – no customs
French Description
Vase: Night Pearl 'Brume'
Grand porcelain vase by Fujii Shumei, very rarely offered in such a monumental size. Coming from a European collection and shipped from Europe, with no customs fees for bidders from the European Union. (The last three photos show the vase within the collection.) The vase is supplied with its tomobako (original signed wooden box).
The vase features a subtle gradient from white to deep blue, animated by a textured crystalline pattern created using the technique of leaf (konoha-gihō), suggesting a stylized forest through the interplay of natural textures that add relief and depth. Its generous shape, topped with a fine and slender neck, makes it an ideal centerpiece to enhance both contemporary and classic interiors.

Fujii Shumei (1936–2017) was a major ceramic artist from Arita (Saga Prefecture), a renowned center of Japanese porcelain. After beginning his career in manufacturing, he founded his own kiln, the Shumeigama, in 1974. His work combines traditional Arita techniques with contemporary aesthetics. He was particularly skilled in underglaze blue, engraving, and his famous konoha-gihō technique ('leaf technique'). He exhibited at the Nitten and the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, receiving numerous awards.
English Description
Vase: Night Pearl “Mist”
Large porcelain vase by Fujii Shumei, rarely seen in this size. Sourced directly from a European collection and shipped from Europe — no import taxes or customs fees for EU bidders. (The last three photos show the vase within the collection.) The vase comes with its original tomobako (signed wooden box).
This remarkable vase features a smooth gradient from white to deep blue, enriched by a textured crystalline pattern created using Fujii Shumei’s signature leaf technique (konoha‑gihō), subtly evoking a stylized forest through overlapping natural textures, which adds depth and movement. Its full rounded body, topped with a slender neck, creates a striking and elegant profile — a true centerpiece for any refined interior.
