Description from the seller
What makes these session extra special is the excellent recording quality that too many of his early recordings, brilliant as they are, suffered from. Hearing the clarity of each player contributes to enjoy some of bebop's best sessions. Bird could realize a lifelong dream to record with strings starting in 1949 when he switched to Norman Granz's Verve label. The partnership enabled Parker also to work with musicians from other genres, such as Latin jazz percussionist and bandleader Machito. In 1950, Parker and Gillespie recorded Bird and Diz, a session that proved to be among the few times Parker worked with bebop pianist Thelonious Monk.
This is essential music.
3 double albums, with all the mastertakes recorded for Verve, and, for reference, a live album from the same period.
