Description from the seller

“DREAMS”: WHEN TWO WHISKY LEGENDS MEET

Few names shine as brightly in the Italian whisky scene as Silvano Samaroli and Pepi Mongiardino. The “Dreams” series represents a historic moment in the art of independent bottling, a unique collaboration between two legendary figures in the world of whisky. In 1999, Samaroli and Mongiardino, two true Italian pioneers, joined forces to create a collection of single malt whiskies of exceptional quality, hand-picking rare and distinctive casks. The series was bottled and distributed by Moon Import, the company founded by Mongiardino in 1980.

Samaroli, known for his almost supernatural ability to select the finest casks, and Mongiardino, with his Moon Import brand and refined artistic eye, created something more than just a collection of whiskies. The series, composed of nine pieces, embodies the shared philosophy of the two masters: that each bottle should tell a story, evoke an emotion, transport the drinker on a unique sensory journey.

The labels of the “Dreams” series are true works of art, designed by Nadia Pini and Hans Piu. Inspired by dreamlike themes, they feature evocative illustrations and refined details, which capture the essence of the bottled whiskies, creating a visual bridge between the world of dreams and the sensorial experience of whisky. These unique designs not only enhance the aesthetics of the bottles, but contribute to their exclusivity and collectibility.

The particularity of the series lies not only in the aesthetics of the labels and the quality of the individual whiskies, but also in the overall vision. Each bottle has been selected to contribute to a larger narrative, creating a tasting journey that passes through different regions of Scotland and different styles of whisky. The decision to bottle all the whiskies at 45% vol. demonstrates the desire to create a common thread that unites the entire collection, allowing enthusiasts to appreciate the intrinsic differences of each spirit without the alcohol content becoming a variable.

Here are some examples of the whiskies that make up the series and that will be featured in the next Pandolfini winter catalogue dedicated to Collectible Whiskies and Spirits:

Glenrothes 1969

The oldest jewel in the collection, this Glenrothes represents the essence of classic Speyside. Long maturation has given this whisky a rare complexity and elegance, with the distillery’s characteristic fruity profile elevated to new heights.

Dailuaine 1975

A refined expression of this historic Speyside distillery, known for its full-bodied and rich malts. The choice of this particular Dailuaine demonstrates Samaroli and Mongiardino’s ability to uncover hidden gems.

Bowmore 1984 and 1991

Two different expressions from the legendary Islay distillery, showing how the same spirit can evolve differently over the years. Bowmore 1984 and its younger brother 1991 offer an interesting opportunity to compare different vintages.

Caol Ila 1984 and 1990

Another pair of bottlings that represent the temporal evolution of a distillery, in this case the famous Caol Ila on Islay. Two different interpretations of the same distillery DNA, selected to show how time can shape the character of the whisky.

Mortlach 1989

A superb example of the “Beast of Dufftown”, as this distillery is nicknamed, known for its robust and distinctive style. The selection of this cask demonstrates the focus on whiskies with character.

Linkwood 1989

An elegant expression of this Speyside distillery, prized by connoisseurs for its finesse and complexity. Its inclusion perfectly completes the picture of the collection.

Longrow 1987

is a rare Campbeltown single malt, distilled in 1987 and bottled in 1999 at 45% ABV. Selected by Silvano Samaroli and Pepi Mongiardino, this limited edition (967 bottles) offers delicate peat, tropical fruit, wax, and coastal notes. Elegant, balanced, and highly collectible.

The collaboration between Samaroli and Moon Import represents more than just a collection of fine whiskies: it is a testament to the legacy of two visionaries who helped elevate whisky from a mere spirit to an art form.

Like any great whisky, the “Dreams” series has improved with time, becoming increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. The bottles of this collaboration are now considered true collectors’ items, testifying not only to the quality of the liquid inside, but also to the historical significance of this unique partnership.
