Description from the seller

Description of the artwork:

This extraordinary photograph captures a fleeting, otherworldly phenomenon on the night of December 13th 2018 on the “Stone Hill” in Budaörs near Budapest, Hungary.

As the wind arose, several clouds floated above the Buda Hills, setting the stage for a truly unique moment. Thanks to the powerful decorative floodlights illuminating the cross on Stone Hill and the nearby Szeplőtelen Fogantatás Chapel, a remarkable projection was cast onto the clouds. The silhouettes of the cross and the chapel tower appeared stacked one above the other, forming an enormous, awe-inspiring image approximately 10-15 meters in height.

This breathtaking phenomenon lasted only a few minutes, with the chapel tower’s projection fading first, followed by the gradual dissolution of the cross. Capturing this ephemeral display of light, symbolizing the interplay of religion, nature, and their profound connection with humanity, brings great satisfaction to the artist. The photograph invites the viewer to contemplate the harmony between divine symbolism, the natural world, and human being.

This work was produced as part of a 20-piece limited edition in an extra-large format. Other pieces from the series are held in private collections around the world. The piece now being offered at auction is the property of the artist, making this a rare and unique opportunity for collectors. The photograph is presented in a matte bronze metal frame, crafted by Hungary’s longest-standing and still-operating picture framing workshop, adding an extra layer of timeless quality to this exceptional piece.

The artist’s signature can be found on the back of the print as well as on a plaque affixed to the back of the frame, further enhancing its authenticity and value. This artwork thrives in a well-lit environment or under proper lighting conditions, allowing its intricate details and evocative atmosphere to shine to their fullest potential. The photograph will be shipped perfectly packaged, shrink-wrapped, and equipped with corner protectors to ensure its safe arrival.

The photograph’s prestige is further elevated by its notable history:

• Exhibited in Prestigious Institutions: Hungarian National Gallery, Hungarian Natural History Museum, and Lünen, Germany.
