Artist biography
Kobalt, born in Paris in 1970, is a polymorphic artist whose creativity has spanned electronic music to contemporary graphic art. Coming from a family where art was already present through his father, a draftsman, Kobalt discovered his first passion at a very young age: musical creation. This passion guided him in his youth, leading to his first album distributed by EMI. While it did not achieve the expected success, it marked the beginning of a rich artistic career full of experimentation.
Alongside the music industry, Kobalt is involved in advertising as a designer/writer for the iconic magazine Playboy, creating advertising campaigns for it.
His career took a turn in 2005 when he became a cameraman, exploring a new facet of the visual world. In 2007, he discovered a passion for photography, adding another artistic skill to his repertoire. In 2010, he successfully founded his own photo agency, highlighting his entrepreneurial spirit.
In 2017, Kobalt made a radical choice to sell his agency to fully embrace graphic art, influenced by his son, who has become a major figure in global street art. A pioneer of computer-assisted artistic creation, Kobalt stands out with over 2,000 works sold in galleries and online to date. His approach is characterized by bold use of humor, provocation, and anachronisms, with a particular penchant for subversion of magazine covers, a style that makes him instantly recognizable.
The influence of contemporary artists such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey (Obey), JR, Warhol, Vhils, Hirst, Chevrier, Seth, Aérosol, Orlinski, Imbue, Invader, Brainwash, Seen, Haring, Lichtenstein, or Kaws permeates his work.
Today, he uses all available digital tools to bring his creations to life, continuing to push the boundaries of artistic expression with a subtle blend of inspiration, innovation, and humor.
