Description from the seller

10th anniversary of this iconic series!

Mixed media artwork, straight from the artist's studio. Ready to hang!

Fine art photography print, mounted on wood. This series of a highly specialized form of macro photography was created in 2015 and has since been exhibited at several leading locations and events (see below). It has also been published in several renowned magazines. The artworks from this series are printed in a very exclusive edition of only 15 pieces.

Materials used include: wood, acrylic paint, photo and varnish (glossy).

Pharmacy/Chemistry & Photography
In my profession as a hospital pharmacist, I must be very precise. We deal with highly vulnerable patient groups. This requires tailored approaches when preparing medications. I believe my expertise also translates into photography. Macro photography is inherently a matter of accuracy. Especially abstract macro, where alongside the necessary precision, your creative mind is also put to work.

I wanted to project the fine work in the preparation room of the hospital pharmacy outside the walls. Other works by macro photographers have always fascinated me. Especially the diverse shapes and colors of different liquids catch my attention. It also stands out that not many photographers use chemical or pharmaceutical substances. I wanted to keep my droplets static, but they also needed to have a better shape than the average water droplet.

This series of drops was created by using 70% sorbitol mixed with water. 70% sorbitol is a transparent liquid with high viscosity (meaning it flows slowly). By carefully mixing it with water, I arrived at the ideal percentage so that my drops became rounder than water droplets. This liquid was drawn up into an ampoule. With precision and a steady hand, it was then dropped onto a DVD using a syringe needle. The photos were taken with a camera and macro lens on a tripod. No external light source (flash or other lighting) was used. I studied the exact angle of sunlight beforehand to predict the degree of refraction and reflection.

This series is called 'The Other Side.' It gives me an image of something otherworldly, something new, something to discover. In that sense, I am an explorer eager to discover more new territories in the beautiful world of abstract macro photography.

Seller's Story

My work is created amidst emotions. I follow my feelings about how the process is progressing and what materials the artwork needs. Throughout this, the science and precision within me are constantly stirred. In my profession as a hospital pharmacist, it requires precision and accuracy. In recent years, I have increasingly fused my work as a pharmacist and a visual artist. I use chemical compounds and create my own perfectly orchestrated combination of Damar resin and beeswax, for example. To influence the viscosity of my paint and wax, I use chemicals like sorbitol and glycerol, and I incorporate burnt pages from pharmaceutical books into my artworks. I am intensely drawn to the unknown: an unknown effect, an unknown material, and an unknown twist of work. It is what motivates me to create new work in this epic battle between the flow of feelings and the science of pharmacy. Rouzbeh Tahmassian is an established multi-disciplinary artist with international exposure. His pieces combine photographs manipulated with various mixed-media techniques on beautiful pieces of wood. Each work is unique and can involve a range of materials including acrylics, oils, pastel, watercolors, beeswax, sanguis, copper, wood, blood, and more. His pieces are personal and expressive with a hint of nostalgia.
