Born in 1925 in New York (Bronx), Yitzroch Loiza Grossbergvit works in New York. He first studied music at the Juilliard School in New York (1944-1945), where he befriended Miles Davis and became a jazz saxophonist under the pseudonym Larry Rivers. From 1947 to 1951, he studied art with Hans Hofmann and art history courses at New York University.
His first personal exhibition took place in 1949. He reintroduced, at the beginning of the fifties, the figuration in the American painting then gives a very personal version of the Pop Art, by diverting the codes of the great paintings which marked the history of the art, such as the Burial at Ornans de Courbet or Olympia de Manet.
Larry Rivers died in August 2002 in Southampton, United States.
