Description from the seller
Snowy Day at the Five-Storied Pagoda in Ueno
Artist: Shintaro OKAZAKI 岡崎紳太郎 (1886 - 1957)
Signed: red artist's seal within the image at the lower right.
Japanese woodblock print
Paper: Echizen Japanese mulberry paper
First printed around 1950. This is a later edition from the original publisher Unsodo, Japan.
Shintaro Okazaki is a Shin-hanga artist from the mid-Showa period, a lesser-known treasure of the Shin Hanga movement. Although his prints reach the level of other Shin Hanga artists, less is known about his life.
The composition is extremely dynamic, realistically expressing the wildness of nature, and the use of color is also unique.
With 'Snowy Day at the Five-Storied Pagoda,' Okazaki created an absolutely stunning Shin-hanga design. He only produced a few designs. We are left with a unique scene to enjoy, with the wild snow depicted in a way unlike any other Shin-hanga artist has ever done. An attractive Shin-hanga design by a rarely seen artist.
