Port Wine
DESCRIPTION
In 1933, having just arrived from Brazil, Clemente da Silva realized his lifelong dream, creating an excellent wine house that would lead him to the globalization of his business: C. da Silva – resulting from the abbreviation of his name. A year later he registered the brand Dalva, which results from the contraction “da Silva”. With a simple and very Portuguese sound, success was easy to achieve in different markets.
Looking for an activity in which to invest the capital of his business in Brazil, the young entrepreneur takes advantage of the close collaboration with the company Corrêa Ribeiro e Filhos, founded in 1862, and owned by his wife's family, to build his initial stocks and give the first steps in business, with Vintage Ports from 1896, 1912 or 1920 being famous.
Combining centuries-old knowledge and techniques with new technologies and innovation, Dalva's portfolio is unique and distinct, presenting an unparalleled offering of Colheita Port Wines, which include unique and limited editions, the classic Vintage Port Wines, and an exclusive range of White Port Wines, culminating in the Golden White and Dry White collection date age and date.
WINEMAKER: José Manuel Sousa Soares.
AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS
95 Points, Gold Medal, Decanter World Wine Awards
95 Points, Gold Medal, International Wine Challenge
91 Points, Wine & Spirits
18 Points, Jancis Robinson
18 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas
Silver Medal, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles
WINE VARIETIES: Traditional red grape varieties from the Douro Region, such as Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz & Touriga Franca.
VINIFICATION
The fermentation process is interrupted at the ideal time, in accordance with the traditional method of producing Port Wine, which includes interrupting fermentation through the addition of brandy of wine origin. This is followed by a prolonged aging in wood, which gives these wines complex aromas and flavors. They are wines from a single harvest, which reveal the character of the year. Aging in casks continues until bottling, with the date indicated on the back label.
TASTING NOTES
Deep and bright amber color. This wine expresses complexity on the nose, as result of the aging process and evolution in wood. It appears with hints of spices and toasted caramel, waxy balsamic notes, with a slightly menthol touch. Creamy and rich on the palate, it reveals an impressive freshness and balance.
SERVING
An intense wine that can be enjoyed on its own, paired with medium-intensity cheeses, rich egg-based desserts, or assorted sweets with dried fruits and spices. Serve at a temperature between 12ºC and 16ºC. Consume in moderation.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s).
