2010 Niepoort Colheita Port 2 x 0.75L
2 Bottles
Port Wine
WINEMAKER: Dirk Niepoort.
AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS
91 Points, Gismondi on Wine
16.5 Points, Vinum Magazine
WINE VARIETIES: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Roriz & others.
VINIFICATION
2010 year was uncommonly wet during winter and early spring, with very strong rains during this few months, as a consequence we add high yields and strong diseases pressure in the vineyards, the maturation period was very hot and dry, but light rain in the first days of September help specially the older and high altitude vineyards to complete a more balanced maturation. Harvest was done in the beginning of September. The grapes were foot-trodden in lagares with 100% stems and fortified at our port production centre in Vale de Mendiz and aged in our cellars at Vila Nova de Gaia, in old 550L barrels.
TASTING NOTES
A brick-red appearance with medium depth and a light orange rim. On the nose a slightly smoky/vanilla aroma from the very old seasoned pipes casks follows through with aromas of marmalade, raisins and dried apricots. Medium-bodied on the palate, with a mellow lengthy spirit-driven finish.
SERVING
Pair with dried or preserved fruit, almond tart or desserts based on eggs, coffee or vanilla. Alternatively, serve chilled as an aperitif.
DESCRIPTION
From 1842 up to today, six generations have been writing Niepoort’s history. What unites them is a passion for wine – a passion which respects traditions but does not shy away from embarking on new paths whenever its unbridled creative drive sounds the call.
Dirk is the current leader of the family – a role passed down to him by his father, with the challenge to “innovate while preserving good traditions”. More than up for the challenge, this fifth-generation member of Niepoort is intensely curious by nature: he carefully observes everything that happens around him, and when he glimpses a unique opportunity, he jumps into action without hesitation. Dirk's children Daniel, Marco and Ana are following in their father's footsteps to ensure that the next few chapters of Niepoort's history continue to be as fruitful as each harvest.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s).
