【Product details】

Late Edo period or later iron sword guard (tsuba) with a chrysanthemum motif carved in radiating lines across the surface. The chrysanthemum is a highly significant symbol in Japanese culture, long associated with the Imperial family, longevity, nobility, and renewal. It also represents resilience, as the flower blooms in autumn when other flowers have faded.

The nakago-ana (central opening) has adjustment marks around the opening where the guard was fitted to a blade. This practical adaptation reflects its genuine use as a functional sword mounting.

The iron surface shows natural wear from age, with minor scuffs and traces of slight rust. Please refer to the photos for details of its condition.

Dimensions: approx. H 7 cm W 6.6 cm D 0.3 cm
