Description from the seller
MONTEGRAPPA - Vintage Set (1930s-1950s) - Fountain Pen with 18Kt Gold Nib + Ballpoint Pen - Rare Mother-of-Pearl Celluloid "Pearl" - Communion Box
Italian Excellence Written in Gold and Celluloid
This is a historic writing set, complete with two instruments and its original case, produced by the oldest Italian pen manufacturer, Montegrappa (founded in 1912). The set is a piece of Italian luxury writing history, typical of the golden age of Celluloide (the 1930s-1950s).
A unique opportunity for collectors to acquire a rare complete set, with authentic internal and external components from the era.
Lottery details
Brand: Montegrappa (Italy)
Production Period: Vintage, estimated between the 1930s and 1950s (concurrent with rare 'Extra' models).
Material: Mother-of-pearl Celluloid ('Pearl'), one of the most desired and rare finishes. This material, based on cellulose, is known for its iridescent shine and warm feel to the touch, qualities that distinguish it from modern resins.
Content of the Set
Fountain pen: In celluloid.
Ballpoint pen (Biro): Made of celluloid, with a rotation mechanism.
Original Box: An original themed box intended as a gift for First Communion (symbol of the Chalice/Host, and Montegrappa logo).
Technical Features of Prestige
Pennino: solid gold 750 (18 karat). The presence of 18kt gold is a marker of luxury, reserved for Montegrappa's finest production.
Ballpoint Pen Mechanism: The internal metal mechanism is engraved with the inscriptions 'MONTEGRAPPA' and 'BIRO LIZENZIERT RUMBOLD.' The Rumbold license certifies the authenticity and contemporaneity of the biro's mechanism with the vintage production period.
Conditions, Important Note, and Transparency for Purchase:
Aesthetic Condition: The instruments are in excellent vintage condition relative to their age. The case shows signs of aging, with visible stains and wear on the satin interior fabric (visible in the photo).
Features: The pens have not been tested for their functionality. The fountain pen will require cleaning and inspection of the filling system. The ballpoint pen needs a new compatible refill, given the age of the mechanism.
Acceptance of Conditions: Photographs are an integral and predominant part of the description. Please carefully review all details. The sale is accepted on an 'seen and liked' basis (AS-IS), as is customary for collectible and vintage items. It is recommended not to make offers without thoroughly viewing all images to accept the aesthetic conditions, which reflect their history.
Value and Collectibility
This set is a collector's piece due to the rarity of the 'Pearl' celluloid, the integrity of the set (two pens and a case), and especially the 750 gold (18kt) nib. Vintage Montegrappa models in celluloid are among the most sought after by collectors.
Professional and tracked shipping. Careful packaging to ensure the integrity of the lot.
