Description from the seller

Patti Smith in the Studio, Berenstraat 18, Amsterdam, 1976. Printed on 270g/m2 Hahnemuhle White Velvet Fine Art paper. Signed and blind stamped. Size 40x60 cm.

In the 1970s, Gijsbert Hanekroot worked as a freelance photographer based in Amsterdam, where he had a studio (Berenstraat 18). His main assignment was the bi-weekly music magazine Muziekkrant Oor (Ear), but he also worked for daily newspapers and magazines. He covered concerts, interviews, press receptions, and studio photoshoots. Those were the golden years of rock music, when the big names recorded their first and second albums, working hard to make their breakthrough.

October 1976, Amsterdam. Patti Smith toured Europe for gigs and promotion of her new album Radio Ethiopia. The record company asked me for a photo shoot. An hour was scheduled, during which former photo model Patti and I worked hard. I didn't have much contact with her, but it was far better than I could have expected.

Together with the well-known designer -SYB- (Sybren Kuiper), I created a photo book of this studio session: Patti Smith by Hanekroot. The book is included with the photograph.
