Biography of Ramón de Capmany Montaner (1899-1992)
Ramón de Capmany i de Montaner, painter, engraver, and bibliophile of the Llotja school, part of the group of 1920s evolutionists. Born in Canet de Mar in 1899, Capmany studied at the Llotja with Francesc Labarta and regularly exhibited at the Parés gallery, although he also gained international notoriety through exhibitions such as the Traveling Exhibition (New York, 1926). He particularly cultivated landscape art (mainly of old Barcelona and Montseny) in a style influenced by naturalism, characterized by attention to detail and fine stroke; he also painted street scenes and portraits. His work as an engraver and illustrator for rare editions was also highly valued. The Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona holds some of his works in its collection. In 1964, he inherited the title of Marquis of Valle e Canet, which he ceded to his eldest son.
