This print is based on the Jōruri play “Odori Niwaka Iro no Hanazono” from Kanadehon Chūshingura, which was performed as a joint production by the Nakamura-za and Ichimura-za theaters beginning on August ,Meiji 3 (1870).
In this scene, after hearing that Hayano Kanpei has killed his father-in-law to steal money, Yagorō and the others attempt to leave him, but Kanpei desperately tries to stop them, grasping the end of his sword.
