前田泰昭 Maeda Yasuaki (1937-) Purple-Red Glazed Jar - Taimei Kiln
This refined jar showcases the mastery of Yasuaki Maeda, a distinguished member of the Nitten Exhibition and founder of Taimei Kiln in Arita.
The vessel features his signature purple-red glaze, demonstrating the exceptional skill required to achieve such refined coloration through complex firing techniques.
Maeda is renowned as one of Japan's foremost masters of shinsha glaze (copper-red glaze), a notoriously difficult technique that produces distinctive red tones through the use of copper as a coloring agent.
This ancient glazing method, which had been largely abandoned in Japanese ceramics due to its extreme difficulty, was revived and perfected by Maeda through decades of research and experimentation.
This jar exemplifies Maeda's artistic vision of creating pictorial spatial expressions inspired by nature—mountains, seas, and landscapes.
The purple-red glaze creates a subtle, sophisticated surface that captures the essence of natural beauty while maintaining the functional elegance of traditional ceramics.
The form is classical yet contemporary, reflecting Maeda's philosophy of pursuing both the beauty of use and the beauty of craft.
After training at a major ceramic manufacturer in Arita where he worked in design, Maeda established his independence at age 36, founding Taimei Kiln.
His career has been marked by continuous experimentation with transformation glazes, developing numerous color variations that enrich the visual experience of his works.
