Description from the seller
Quinta do Gago – Casal Faria Grande Reserva 2015 (6 x 75cl)
DOC Trás-os-Montes · Sub-Region of Valpaços · Limited to 1,227 Bottles
A rare opportunity to acquire six bottles of one of the most elegant and age-worthy red wines from the Trás-os-Montes DOC, produced in the village of Sonim from high-altitude vineyards (500 m) planted on granite-sandy soils, under a dry continental climate.
Crafted from Touriga Nacional (80%) and Bastardo (20%), the grapes were hand-harvested, fully destemmed except for 10% whole clusters, and vinified in traditional granite lagares with foot treading for 8–10 days. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts preserved the natural expression of the terroir. After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, 40% of the wine aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels, with the remainder resting in inox before bottling.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby with garnet reflections. The nose is earthy and refined, showing forest floor, black fruit compote, dried herbs, cacao, and subtle sweet spices (clove, cinnamon, nutmeg). The palate is intense yet silky, with firm, well-integrated tannins, and flavours of dark berries, tobacco leaf, and spiced plum, leading to a persistent, complex finish.
Ideal Pairings:
Perfect with slow-cooked roasts, game meats, traditional cured sausages, and wild mushroom dishes. Serve at 16–18 °C. Drinking beautifully now, but with at least a decade of further cellaring potential.
Cellar Conditions:
These bottles have been preserved in impeccable private cellar conditions, with controlled temperature, low light, and stable humidity—ensuring perfect ageing, structural integrity, and optimal flavour development.
Final Notes:
With only 1,227 bottles produced, the Casal Faria Grande Reserva 2015 stands as an authentic expression of the Trás-os-Montes highlands—combining artisan winemaking, limited production, and terroir authenticity. Offered here in a six-bottle set, this is a collector’s asset with exceptional long-term investment potential, appealing to those who value both cultural heritage and the enduring appreciation of fine wine.
