Description from the seller
Dan Van Severen (1927–2009)
Screen print, 1989
Signed and numbered 53/100
Very beautiful and rare linocut by the Belgian artist Dan Van Severen, one of the leading representatives of geometric-abstract art in Belgium. The work dates from 1989 and is in good condition.
Van Severen is known for his clean formal language, in which he repeatedly returned to elementary geometric figures: line, square, circle, and cross. He developed this formal language into an almost meditative body of work that received international recognition. His work is part of numerous museum and private collections.
Dan Van Severen is often placed alongside other prominent figures of minimalist and abstract art such as Antoni Tàpies, Victor Vasarely, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, and Belgian contemporaries like Guy Vandenbranden, Jo Delahaut, and Marc Mendelson. His work also aligns with the international trend of reduction and silence that was explored during the same period by artists like Donald Judd and Agnes Martin.
A special collectible for enthusiasts of abstraction and minimalism, and a valuable addition to any collection.
