Description from the seller
Jo Delahaut (1911–1992)
Screen printing in 5 colors, 1981
Signed and numbered: 1–100 + 10 each
Format: 27.7 × 21.5 cm
Arches Vellum 300 g
Very fine and well-preserved screen print by Jo Delahaut, one of the pioneers of geometric abstraction in Belgium. The work was created in 1981 using five colors, printed on high-quality Vélin d’Arches by the Bekascreen studio (Ekeren). The edition consists of 100 numbered copies and 10 artist's proofs. The sheet is signed by Delahaut and is in excellent condition.
Delahaut developed a fully autonomous abstract visual language from the 1940s onwards, focusing on form, color, and rhythm. His strict yet balanced compositions align with international concrete art and establish him as one of the key figures of the post-war abstract movement in Belgium.
Context
The body of work of Jo Delahaut is often placed alongside that of Victor Vasarely, Max Bill, Josef Albers, Guy Vandenbranden, Dan Van Severen, and other representatives of European geometric abstraction. His work aligns with the pursuit of order, clarity, and purity that, in the same period, was explored by artists such as François Morellet and Julio Le Parc.
This piece is a particularly beautiful example of Delahaut's mature style and is a valuable addition to any collection focused on abstraction, geometry, or the Belgian avant-garde.
