Listed as number 8 in Donkersloot's catalogue raisonné of Corneille's graphic works. Overall paper dimensions: 32 x 24.5 cm. Very good condition. Stamped signature. Artist's proof (EA) with Corneille's studio stamp on the back.

In this work, the painter incorporates several elements that would come to define his Cobra painting style: the spiral, the flying fish, the surreal eye, the fish-like figures, and the geology of a mountainous landscape. The lines are reminiscent of children's drawings. The fusion of the mineral and the living leaves room for multiple interpretations of the image. This artistic language emerged in the painter's work after his observation of the works of Miró and Paul Klee. There is something primitive in the motifs, and already a love of distant cultures.
