Description from the seller
Jean-Claude Maas - Arnold GUERLINCK
Boësses, France
Artist (Painting)
Born in 1946
Two beautiful original paintings on hard cardboard/wood in their characteristic 3-D structure created with acrylic, cubism, and collage, both signed top right (see photos).
Deriving the 'affective' from the name - Arnold GUERLINCK - from a very dear friend of his father, whom he knew during the last war in STO in Germany, allowed JeanClaude MAAS to avoid facing duality, and to respond in all serenity to two streams of inspiration that are deeply rooted in his visual imagination.
BRONNEN
Born on March 11, 1946, the artist was raised by his grandfather, a photographer, and his grandmother, who held a flea market in the Montpamasse neighborhood.
It is in this environment, conducive to the development of artistic aspirations, that Jean-Claude, at a very young age—13 years old—began a global internship in photography and laboratory work, allowing him to explore a wide range of fields: fashion, industry, entertainment, and to create both reports and portraits.
Another musician (guitar and synthesizer) started selling records at the age of 21, an activity he carried out for 13 years at the Saint Ouen flea market.
His family history caught up with him, and since he, like his grandmother, had become a secondhand dealer, he quickly became interested in painting and started collaborating with painters.
And thus, this art literally absorbed his life within itself.
The double inspiration
KUBISME:
In love with this pictorial movement, whose works, especially from the first half of the 20th century, proved too expensive for him to buy, Jean-Claude MAAS started painting to satisfy this passion. And to his great surprise, a buyer immediately appeared for his first work! It is under the name Arnold GUERLINCK that this cubist inspiration will continue to flourish.
Realism
His early years, immersed in Montparnasse in Paris and its artistic bohemianism, permanently connected him to the capital. He has a deep-rooted need for this Parisian life and harbors a profound nostalgia for scenes that are now rare in a increasingly cleaner Paris...
An 'impressionistic' look, but through a style unique to him, allowed him, under the signature of Jean-Claude MAAS, to restore these visions captured in cafes, streets, and more...
He has participated in numerous exhibitions and sold works, both in France and abroad (USA, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, etc.).
