Description from the seller
Cigarette tin of the brand 'Hausorden' from the well-known cigarette factory Casanova, Dresden. 25-piece tin, dating from the period after the First World War, approximately from 1918 to the mid-1920s. The brand name 'Hausorden' is already documented on earlier, classically designed tins from the 1900s/1910s; the lithographed version presented here belongs to the subsequent generation and likely dates back to a design from the mid-1910s.
Furthermore, the original paper inlay is preserved in excellent condition.
Visually, the tin catches the eye with a neo-orientalist design: in the center lies the order-like shield motif, framed by a densely designed ornamental background with stylized, plant-like forms. The ornamentation still clearly recalls Jugendstil but is constructed in strict symmetry and rendered in clear color fields – a beautiful precursor to early Art Déco. The simple, Werkbund-style typography ('CASANOVA' / 'HAUSORDEN' in blocky uppercase letters) provides a deliberate contrast and anchors the design in the modern packaging graphics of the early 1920s.
Uncleaned collector's condition with age-appropriate patina. Minor paint chips and scratches, but overall a harmonious appearance. The lithograph is well preserved, the colors still very appealing. The lid closes securely, the hinge is intact, the interior is dry and darkened with age. The original paper inlay is in excellent condition.
A distinctive original tin from the transitional period between late Art Nouveau and early Art Deco – ideal for collectors of historical tobacco products, advertising objects and early industrial and graphic design.
