Carl Konst (XX) – Pierot, an original oil painting of a portrait, 60 by 73 cm, hand-signed, dating from 2006, in excellent condition, origin Germany, sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
The painter Carl Konst employs the artistic effects of 16th-century Renaissance painting in his works but combines them with pictorial content similar to that of the English Pre-Raphaelites from Victorian England. Both the clear symbolic content of his works and his preference for idealized female bodies and faces clearly demonstrate his affinity with the Pre-Raphaelites. In contrast, Carl Konst simulates the typical old master glazing techniques of Renaissance oil paintings by using modern painting and mixing techniques with acrylic and oil paints, as well as collages. Another appealing contrast arises from the juxtaposition between the naturalistic three-dimensional figuration and the ornamental flatness of fabrics, textures, and backgrounds, which gives his works even more depth and density. This compositional technique draws on the works of Art Nouveau and the Viennese School of the Fin de Siècle around 1900. This layered use of a naturalistic impression of Renaissance and 19th-century painting, the abstract symbolism of Art Nouveau, and the increased use of intense color gradations over the years have a remarkable effect on the viewer. The viewer needs a considerable amount of time to fully grasp the effect of the works in all their complexity.
The work is available for viewing at our gallery. Furthermore, Art Dumay has a framing shop (celebrating their 85th anniversary this year) and a restoration studio. If you wish to make use of these services, we would be happy to hear from you.
