The most intense yellow of all Sauternes, showing first, delicate gold reflections. Sweet, concentrated, multi-faceted bouquet, fragrant with freshly spun honey, light malt, boiled apricots, but also dry fruit hints in the form of light sultanas, despite the enormous sweetness showing an citrus-like and mineral freshness, in the second nose with a touch of Cointreau, mandarin peels, ripe lemons. Gigantic, creamy-creamy palate appearance, melting, finesse and a perfectly integrated acidity at the highest level, finely distributed acid play, highly ripe fruit, very fine nuances of tropical fruits along with mirabelles, light apricots and white peach, a touch of pineapple in the long, dramatic finale. If you are still looking for flaws in very large wines, you will be disappointed: the 2005 d'Yquem is perfect. Wine lovers who buy the famous Sauternes 'en primeur' will probably not experience the most ingenious maturity themselves. A little consolation: Such ingenious d'Yquems give almost everything of their immeasurable beauty even at an early stage. 20/20
