Description from the seller
Acrylic on canvas, 30x40 cm.
Original artwork by Irene Raspollini. With certificate of authenticity.
Provocative version of Michelangelo's David, inspired by a recent news story in which a school principal in Florida was fired because, during an art history lesson, she showed her students this masterpiece, which her superiors considered obscene.
IRENE RASPOLLINI
Irene is a professional artist born in Siena in 1982. Self-taught, her painting is mainly influenced by pop culture and the kitsch aesthetic. Her figurative style, featuring characters with red cheeks immersed in surreal contexts with saturated colors, has recently attracted the attention of international collectors and gallery owners.
In 2024, she is the artist chosen to create the drappellone for the 128th Balestro del Girifalco, a historic medieval crossbow tournament in Massa Marittima (GR). In the same year, she is commissioned to create the artwork for the 70th edition of the Premio dei Tabernacoli in Siena.
In 2025, the artist selected to create the work as a prize at the 67th Sagra del Tordo, a traditional medieval archery tournament held annually in Montalcino (SI).
His work has been exhibited in Italy, the United Kingdom, Mexico, China, Taiwan, Russia, the USA, and Austria, and is part of private collections around the world.
