Description from the seller
Reinforced concrete – From the street to your home
The new series of works by IABO plays on the double meaning of the title: 'Reinforced Concrete,' which, by crossing out the 'R,' becomes 'Loved Concrete.' It’s a pun that transforms the idea of the solidity and durability of concrete into an emotional bond with the material and the artist's creative journey.
The choice to paint on cement panels is not random but deeply symbolic. Those familiar with IABO know that his artistic journey began in the 1990s as a graffiti writer and metropolitan artist, and then established itself, from 2003 onwards, as one of the first street artists in Naples.
In the following years, his work shifted from the street to the canvas, entering the world of contemporary art. With over 100 exhibitions held worldwide—including museums, galleries, and public and private spaces—IABO has established a unique and recognizable language.
With 'Reinforced Concrete', the artist returns to his roots, paying homage to his past as a writer, when he painted on the city's concrete walls. This project re-explores the most authentic, raw, and lived urban aesthetic, restoring that metropolitan flavor that characterizes street art.
The protagonists of these works are his famous 'profiles,' a series of characters reinvented with his distinctive style. The works are created using stencils and spray cans, and although the subjects repeat, each piece is unique thanks to the different textures and irregularities of the concrete. Additionally, IABO uses 'lost shape' stencils, which cannot be reused, making each creation unrepeatable.
The works are already framed with a suspension system that creates a floating effect and enhances the materiality of the cement. Each piece measures 65x65 cm (including the frame), is signed on the back, and comes with a certificate of authenticity stamped and signed by the artist.
