Description from the seller
Origin: Scotland
Distillery: Balvenie
Type: Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Alcohol content: 48% ABV
Ageing: 27 years, including the final years in Caroni rum casks
Collaboration: Balvenie & Bristol Spirits
The Balvenie 27 Year Old Ex Caroni Rum Cask Finish is a highly limited edition resulting from an exceptional collaboration between David Stewart, the Balvenie Malt Master, and John Barrett of Bristol Spirits. This unique whisky embodies the harmonious marriage of two worlds: Scottish whisky and Trinidadian rum.
Following a meeting in 2009 to explore potential rum casks, David Stewart discovered a remarkable collection of Caroni rums from Trinidad, renowned for their heavy and oily character. John Barrett, one of the few rum connoisseurs to acquire the remaining stocks of the Caroni distillery, which closed permanently in 2003, impressed David with these samples.
William Grants purchased Caroni casks in 2009 and 2014. These casks were used to finish 20-year-old Balvenie for seven years, an exceptionally long process for finishing, to create this unique 27-year-old whisky.
