Description from the seller
Pink Floyd – Flaming / The Gnome
Extremely Rare US Promo Single (1967) – Tower 378 – Styrene Allied Pressing
Item Description & Historical Significance:
This is an extremely scarce and highly collectible US promotional (Promo) single for the track "Flaming," released on Tower 378 in November 1967.
This single is noteworthy for two main reasons:
1. US-Specific Release: This track was chosen for the US market (in place of "Apples and Oranges," which was released in the UK), making this specific 7" release unique to the American market. It was the third single released for Tower Records.
2. Syd Barrett Era: Both tracks, "Flaming" and "The Gnome," are seminal psychedelic compositions written by founding member Syd Barrett, taken from the band's debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (Tower Album #5093).
This promotional copy is especially desirable for collectors due to its unique pressing format and rarity.
Specific Pressing Details:
Rarity: An extremely difficult-to-find Promo single pressed on Styrene (instead of standard vinyl), which was common practice at the Allied Record Company plant for promotional copies.
Pressing Plant: Confirmed as an Allied Pressing by the runout etchings (X-5411 / X-5412).
Historical Value: Represents a key piece of early Pink Floyd, showcasing the full genius of Syd Barrett's songwriting.
Notes on the label state: "Recorded In England - Manufactured In USA" and "Underneath the B title is written: From Tower Album #5093 'Pink Floyd'".
