Fisherfolk Conversing In The Dunes, a 19th‑century oil painting from the Netherlands, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
In this painting, Andreas Schelfhout demonstrates his keen eye for detail. The figures are carefully rendered and surrounded by various small objects, while the scene is set against a seascape with ships on the water and along the beach.
Dimensions: 20 x 26 cm
Dimensions with frame: 39 x 45 cm
The work was created by Andreas Schelfhout (1787–1870), one of the most important Romantic landscape painters of the Netherlands. Under his hands, the flat, often windy Dutch landscape transformed into a poetic idyll. Although early in his career he mainly painted landscapes and seascapes, he is best known for his winter scenes. He painted his first ice view at the age of 19; his last was in 1869, at the age of 81.
Provenance:
From a private collection
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
