Description from the seller

This standing statue of Amida Nyorai with a bit large face is enshrined in a shrine.
This statue was created during the Edo period, approximately 200-300 years ago.
The statue and shrine are fixed in place and cannot be removed.
There is no major damage, but some dirt, scratches, discoloration, and other signs of aging are evident.

A large-looking face on a Buddha statue is considered to represent "high virtue," and is thought to be a design element intended to enhance its presence.

Reason for a large face
Symbol of "high virtue": Like the principal image of a temple, the larger the Buddha statue, the more virtuous it is, and so they are often made with large faces.
Expressing the Buddha's dignity and presence: The face is sometimes made intentionally large to express the Buddha's dignity.

Amida Nyorai (阿弥陀如来) is one of the principal Buddhas revered in Mahayana Buddhism. In Pure Land Buddhism, a branch of Mahayana Buddhism, faith in Amida is preached, whereby one can attain rebirth in the Pure Land through the recitation of the phrase "Namu Amida Butsu" (南無阿弥陀仏).

Amida Nyorai is regarded as the ruler of the Pure Land, a Buddha land (paradise) located in the western direction. Also known as the Buddha of Infinite Light and Life, he is believed to possess boundless wisdom and an infinite lifespan, continually saving people.

As the central figure in Pure Land Buddhism, Amida Nyorai is depicted in various mudras (hand gestures), such as the Mudra of Granting a Wish, Dharma Wheel Mudra (Teaching Mudra), Meditation Mudra, and Welcoming Gesture, unlike the Yakushi Nyorai statue. This faith in Amida Buddhism spread to Japan around the beginning of the 7th century and became popular during the Kamakura period, leading to the establishment of Pure Land sects such as Jodo Shu, Jodo Shinshu, and Ji sect.
