Description from the seller
Frans Clement was born in 1941 in Eindhoven. He studied at the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven and later developed into a painter with a fondness for photorealism. His work is characterized by a sharp observation of reality, capturing everyday objects, situations, and people with almost photographic precision. Clement is inspired by the contrasts between humans and objects, between banality and beauty, and between fleeting moments and lasting images. His paintings often raise questions about the relationship between reality and representation: is what we see purely documentation, or is there a deeper layer hidden within?
On a table with a blue checkered tablecloth lies a folded newspaper, in which two plucked chickens rest. The scene is everyday, but the precise composition and the cool light elevate the subject to something symbolic and timeless. The artist plays with contrasts: the sleek, geometric patterns of the tablecloth against the loose folds of the paper and the organic shapes of the animals.
The brushwork is clear and controlled, with great attention to light and surface. The tones range from cool blues and greys to soft cream colors with subtle hints of red and yellow. This creates a balance between detachment and intimacy.
This artwork comes from the collection of the Eindhoven Museum. As part of the transition to Museumpark Vonk, selected works are being disposed of so that the museum can fully focus on the history and identity of Eindhoven.
Dimensions with frame: 51 x 61 cm
Dimensions without frame: 50 x 60 cm
