Description from the seller
Marc Gonz
resistance.
In front of one of his paintings, we don’t look at an image. We face an inner landscape—a tactile memory we didn’t know we carried within us.
The way Marc Gonz works consists in burying layer after layer; in this process of burial, a face begins to take shape, part of the disorder and the error, in order to find a harmony. Marc Gonz’s works, through matter and color, present us with a distorted version of reality. The brutality and density of the brushstroke reveal a visceral work, often vibrant, grotesque and primal, yet at the same time it expresses deep emotions that refer us to the ancestral and the spiritual, going to the essence without artifices, an excavation of the soul. With a mix of abstraction and expressionism they create a transformation of the human form, where its meaning is transcended. All of this gives us an idea of his complexity and invites us on the path to the deepest parts of the unconscious. The artist himself makes his own paintings, achieving a impasto technique in which density of the paint is recreated by molding large, overflowing painterly masses. The volume of the brushstrokes turns the works almost into sculptures, creating microcosms that take on their own identity when we approach them.
