【Product details】
This collection consists of ten Showa-period reprint woodblock prints, featuring celebrated designs by three important artists: Kitagawa Utamaro, Toyoda Shinzo, and Utagawa Toyokuni I.
The two sets after Kitagawa Utamaro depict “Ryogokubashi” from the famed series showing people enjoying the cool evening air on Ryogoku Bridge over the Sumida River. Utamaro (1753–1806) is renowned as the master of bijin-ga, portraying elegant women with exceptional refinement. One set is mounted together on a long continuous mat within a folder, while the other set has each sheet individually mounted. Minor foxing is present.
The three small-format bird prints are by Toyoda Shinzo, a highly regarded woodblock printer whose craftsmanship was highlighted in the 1999 Yashio City Museum exhibition “The Skills of the Printer Toyoda Shinzo – The Coloured World of Ukiyo-e.” These designs feature a blue-and-yellow bird among plum blossoms, a Japanese white-eye on cherry blossoms, and a tit among autumn leaves. Each print is mounted on paper. Very good used condition.
The final print is a reprint of an erotic bijin-ga by Utagawa Toyokuni I (1769–1825), identifiable by the signature “Toyokuni ga” on the right side of the image. This is a Showa-period reproduction of a classic shunga composition. Very good used condition.
Overall condition ranges from good to very good, with minor flaws consistent with age. Please check the photos for details.
