A Czech-Parisian artist and child prodigy of French Constructivist Informalism, he was involved in the Surrealist movement of Breton's group in the 1940s. He was decisively influenced by Antoni Tàpies and André Masson in the development of his informal art. In 1951, Serpan, along with Jean Fautrier, Jean Dubuffet, Georges Mathieu, and Henri Michaux, participated in the famous Paris exhibition Les signifiers de l'Informalisme. In 1959, he gained prominence at the 2nd Documenta in Kassel.

Apparent abstraction in linear contrasts conceals a suggestive and calculated constructivist figuration. Vibrant colors on high-quality paper with silks heavily laced with paint. A striking and interesting work by the Czech artist with golf references.
