Description from the seller
Author
Antonio Teruzzi (1945) is an Italian painter and sculptor. Born in Brugherio, near Milan, in 1945, he is an artist dedicated to exploring light and spirituality through the skillful use of ancient and contemporary techniques. His stylistic signature is distinguished by the masterful use of fresco and encaustic, methods that allow him to layer color and material to create works with strong symbolic and metaphysical significance. Over the decades, Teruzzi has established a profound dialogue between classical painting tradition and modern, lyrical abstraction, exploring themes related to memory, silence, and the essence of being, which have made him a prominent figure in the international art scene.
His long career is marked by significant successes, including participation in the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011 and numerous exhibitions in prestigious galleries across Europe and the world. In addition to his painting production, Teruzzi has always maintained a strong connection to his homeland, actively promoting culture through the founding of exhibition spaces and academies aimed at passing on a passion for art to new generations. His artistic vision goes beyond mere aesthetics, shaping a journey of discovery aimed at unveiling the invisible, transforming each work into a threshold to a dimension of quiet and deep inner reflection.
Description
"Sempre sull'Arte Canto," a mixed-media sculpture in wood and bronze, height 86cm, width 15cm, depth 30cm, base 15*15cm. 2011, dated and signed with pyrography by the artist on the lower wooden part, unique piece.
The sculpture is made from a barrel stave, mounted on a base with a corresponding bronze support. The composition is slender, finding its main structural characteristic in the verticality of the form. The stave features extensive gilding alternating with thin dark horizontal bands that reveal the original wood coloration underneath. The gilding itself shows graphic marks made with a primitive-style pyrography tool, where geometric elements coexist with stylized human figures. Alongside these elements are some inscriptions, starting from the top with 'Sempre sull'Arte Canto', then continuing with 'Canto Nuovo e Grande', almost as if to inscribe parts of a short poetic composition into the material. The inscriptions end at the bottom, where the artist has signed and dated the piece.
The work presented is the perfect sculptural transposition of that artistic activity, predominantly painting, to which the artist has dedicated himself, showcasing all the main components of his poetics and research. An approach with a strongly tactile result, just as Teruzzi's painting is, excelling in encaustic and fresco techniques, which here are expressed through the use of a pyrography tool to carve into the tactile wooden material. The search for a living matter is also infused into the bronze base with irregular, jagged edges. This vibrant volumetric exploration dialogues and finds a perfect balance by approaching essential and almost archetypal forms. Thus, reaching transcendental outcomes, typical of that profound dialogue between classical tradition and modern, lyrical abstraction, which explores themes related to memory, silence, and the essence of being.
A sculpture with a balanced composition that simultaneously functions as a work of art and a refined design object.
