Description from the seller
Gerard Verdijk was an important Dutch painter and draftsman, widely recognised for his powerful visual language and his consistent dedication to abstraction. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in ’s-Hertogenbosch, he developed from the 1960s onward a distinct artistic vocabulary built on reduced forms, rhythmic lines and refined colour fields. His work moves between lyrical abstraction and a more constructive, structured approach, always marked by a strong sense of balance, materiality and spatial tension.
Verdijk exhibited extensively in the Netherlands and abroad, and his works are represented in numerous private and public collections. Today he is regarded as a significant figure of post-war Dutch abstraction. His paintings and works on paper are valued for their calm, poetic presence and their enduring aesthetic quality—attributes that continue to make his work highly sought after by collectors.
