The Adoration of the Shepherds
Museum exhibition of Santi Corsi
(act.c.1870-1900)
Large-sized oil on canvas by the Tuscan painter Santi Corsi, created towards the end of the nineteenth century.
The artist exhibited at Palazzo Pitti in Florence, the work is published and is legally certified.
Size: 163 x 97 cm in original frame.
An artwork signed on the back with the original address of the painter's studio in Florence.
A work that literally illuminates the scene it depicts: this Nativity from the late nineteenth century, signed by the painter Santi Corsi (active between 1870 and 1900), is a valuable example of how Italian painting tradition dialogues with the great masters of the European Seicento.
Also exhibited at Palazzo Pitti in Florence, Corsi here pays a refined tribute to a famous model.
The 'Adoration of the Shepherds' (1617) by Gerrit van Honthorst, master of Caravaggesque light.
Like in the work of the Dutch painter, the scene is built around the brightness of the Child, who becomes a source of light for the shepherds, Mary, Joseph, and the small angels that populate the upper part of the painting.
