Description from the seller
This elegant Swan Pen fountain pen, made in the United States by Mabie Todd & Co., is presented in an extraordinary condition of preservation, both aesthetically and functionally, considering its age close to a century.
The body and the lid display a gold finish engraved with a guilloché pattern in a herringbone design, maintaining their original shine and a uniform light patina, a testament to their authenticity. No significant dents or structural wear are apparent. The inscriptions “SWAN PEN MABIE TODD & CO. N.Y.” remain perfectly legible and well-defined.
The clip, of the ball type, maintains its original alignment and tension, with no signs of oxidation. The screw of the cap fits smoothly and securely. The 14-carat gold nib, engraved with “MABIE TODD & CO. N.Y. 14CT GOLD,” remains intact, without deformations, with an excellent tip and a steady ink flow. The ebonite feed shows its fins perfectly preserved, with no cracks or losses.
The lateral lever filler system is complete and operational, with the internal mechanism inspected and the lever properly fitting into its slot. The inner bag has been replaced or inspected to ensure modern functionality (in case of recent restoration).
The pen comes with its original case, lined in cream satin with the logo 'SWAN PEN – FYNE-POYNT PENCIL' still visible, and an orange velvet base in good overall condition, with slight signs of use consistent with age.
Overall, this is a highly collectible piece that combines aesthetic beauty, mechanical integrity, and historical authenticity, making it ideal both for display cases and occasional writing.
An authentic representation of the technical and artistic refinement of Mabie Todd & Co. during the golden age of fountain pens.
