Description from the seller
Henri Joseph Pauwels was a Belgian painter known for his atmospheric rural scenes, subdued village views, and harmonious landscapes. Born in 1903 in Aalst, Pauwels grew into an artist deeply rooted in the Flemish painting tradition, where atmosphere, simplicity, and recognizability are central.
In this winter landscape, Pauwels again demonstrates his ability to depict mood and atmosphere with great sensitivity. The work shows a snowy landscape featuring a low farmstead with a thatched roof at the center, surrounded by dark, silhouette-like trees. The sky is heavy and threatening, composed of deep gray and blue tones that evoke an almost still, melancholic atmosphere. The brushwork is broad, expressive, and dynamic, especially in the sky and trees, giving the entire scene a powerful, wintry character.
Dimensions of work with frame: 76 x 121 cm
Dimensions of work without frame: 56 x 105 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
