Description from the seller

Allan Rzepka was a Polish painter, graphic artist, and set designer, born and died in Kraków. He studied and taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where he later became a professor.

His work combines figurative painting with symbolic and scenographic elements. Themes such as identity, faith, transience, and human reflection play an important role. The compositions often resemble theatrical scenes, with carefully chosen objects and subtle use of color.

Rzepka participates in international exhibitions, including the Biennale of Paris, and has exhibited worldwide in more than a hundred solo and group exhibitions. His works are housed in museums such as the National Museum of Kraków.

His style is often described as magical realism or symbolic figurativism, where technique and emotion merge. To date, his oeuvre remains appreciated by collectors and art lovers for its craftsmanship and poetic depth.

In this intriguing painting, Allan Rzepka combines symbolism, self-reflection, and theatrical composition in a carefully constructed scene. A man in a red costume — possibly a self-portrait or allegorical figure — stands next to an architectural structure reminiscent of an altar or stage set. At the top, a carved eagle, a symbol of power or national identity, is perched, while in the middle, a pear-shaped object refers to transience or knowledge.

At the bottom, half hidden, a second figure appears, looking at the viewer — a subtle play between artist and character, reality and illusion. The strong contrasts between red tones and soft pastels enhance the dramatic tension.

Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
