Description from the seller
Allan Rzepka was a Polish painter, graphic artist, and scenographer, born and died in Kraków. He studied and taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where he later became a professor.
His work combines figurative painting with symbolic and scenographic elements. Themes such as identity, faith, transience, and human reflection play an important role. The compositions often resemble theatrical scenes, with carefully chosen objects and subtle use of color.
Rzepka participates in international exhibitions, including the Paris Biennale, and has exhibited worldwide in more than a hundred solo and group exhibitions. His works are held in museums such as the National Museum of Kraków.
His style is often described as magical realism or symbolic figurativism, where technique and emotion blend together. To this day, his body of work continues to be appreciated by collectors and art lovers for its craftsmanship and poetic depth.
In this painting, Allan Rzepka masterfully combines his fascination with theater, identity, and symbolism. The composition shows a group of figures who seem to pose in a theatrical setting: a man in a white painter's smock with a brush in hand — possibly a self-portrait — is surrounded by strange characters and props.
Centered are three figures with masks and costumes: a man with an animal head, a female figure with a crown and a corset, and an androgynous figure with horns. They evoke theatrical puppets or archetypical characters from a symbolic drama. On the left side sits a naked, white figure with a pointed cap, motionless like a sculpture, while on the right, a violin and a horn refer to music and creation.
Due to the fragile and valuable nature of this artwork, a premium courier service with insurance and professional packaging is used. This ensures that your artwork is delivered safely.
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
