Description from the seller
At a young age, Henri Hess's drawing talent (born 1950, Eindhoven) was evident. Although he initially attended the L.T.S., he ultimately chose his true passion: art. From 1967, he studied at the Eindhoven Free Academy, where he was taught by, among others, Peter ’t Hoen and Jan Kuhr. Through his contacts with painters Frans Manders and Louis Ector, he further developed into a talented and versatile artist.
In this colorful painting, Hess captures the warmth and liveliness of a summer landscape in full bloom. In the foreground stands a female figure, basking in sunlight, with an expressive portrait built up from bold strokes in warm oranges and rust tones. Behind her stretches an expansive lavender field, painted in a rich palette of purple, blue, and green, revealing the characteristic dynamism of Hess's brushwork. The thick, loose brushstrokes and vibrant color use give the work an energetic, almost tangible atmosphere. In the background, houses and hills appear under a radiant blue sky, giving the scene a southern, almost Provençal feel. The result is a lively and positive work that clearly showcases Hess's mastery of color, light, and composition.
The work has light damage on the left side.
