Description from the seller
This painting is a feast to behold: something is happening everywhere. People are singing, making music, and toasting, making the canvas burst with life. The work was created by David Bles (1821–1899), an exceptionally talented Hague painter who was allowed to attend the drawing academy at the age of thirteen. He was trained by renowned masters and developed into a celebrated creator of refined genre scenes with an 18th-century atmosphere. Bles’s eye for detail and his lively storytelling earned him great appreciation and prestigious commissions in his time.
