Crystal transparent baluster vase in Art Deco style, dating to circa 1930–1940, weight 4.4 kg, height 26.5 cm, diameter 15 cm, made in France, in good condition with minor interior wear.
Description from the seller
Exceptional heavy crystal baluster vase (1,500 g), probably made in the 1930s, a prosperous period of French Art Deco.
Immediately recognizable style of the major Lorraine houses: Baccarat, Saint-Louis, or equivalent glassworks (unsigned piece, which is very common on high-end models from that period).
Detailed description.
Total height: 26.5 cm
Neck diameter: 15 cm (large flared opening)
Base diameter: 13 cm
Weight: 1.5 kg – crystal with remarkable thickness and density, very domed bottom.
The decor, of rare finesse, is entirely engraved in matte cameo.
Two majestic stylized swans (or peacocks), with wings spread, face each other in the middle of a tangle of reeds, water lilies, and aquatic flowers. The drawing is fluid and very elegant, with a beautiful effect of transparency and depth when the light passes through.
The lower part is cut into very large and deep diamond points (an iconic geometric pattern of the 1930s), creating sparkling reflections and a striking contrast with the matte engraving of the top.
The baluster foot, massive and perfectly proportioned, completes the silhouette with great elegance.
Exceptional state of conservation
No shine, no cracks, no repairs. The crystal remains clear, the engraving intact. Only very faint signs of use inside the neck (almost invisible) attest to its age.
Both understated and spectacular, ideal on a console, side table, or in front of a window where swans seem to float in the light. Its weight and stability even allow for a small bouquet or a string of lights to create a magical effect.
Possible provenance Baccarat or Saint-Louis (model similar to certain special series from the 1930s).
Any additional questions about the item can be sent by email to the seller before the end of the auction.
Possible hand delivery in Liège or very careful shipping.
