Description from the seller
Weather Report was a jazz fusion band of the 1970s and 1980s, led by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, that combined jazz and Latin jazz with elements of ethnic music, R&B, funk, rock and contemporary music. Their music is of a high level of compositional and improvisational.
The founders of Weather Report, pianist Joe Zawinul and saxophonist Wayne Shorter, met in 1959 playing in Maynard Ferguson's Big Band. During the 1960s, Zawinul played with Cannonball Adderley's group, and Shorter with Miles Davis' second great quintet. Their contributions to these groups made them stand out among the great jazz composers of all time. They later reunited when Zawinul participated in the first fusion recordings with Miles Davis (In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew).
Despite this prior friendship between Zawinul and Shorter, Weather Report is often referred to as a derivative of the group of musicians associated with Miles Davis during the early 1970s.
