Very fine iron-glazed pottery vase by Shimizu Uichi (1926–2004), Japan; signed with inscribed tomobako, 14.5 cm diameter, 24 cm high, from the second half of the 20th century, in good condition.

Born in Gojo, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City
1940
Dropped out of Ritsumeikan Commercial School
Studied under Living National Treasure Ishiguro Munemaro (1893-1968)
Experimented in recreating historical Chinese-style wares, especially those with iron-glaze
1970
Moved his pottery studio to the foot of Mount Horai in Kosai, Shiga Prefecture
Began firing craquelure celadon glazed works
1985
Recognized as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for "iron-glazed pottery"
2004
Passed away
